They do not defend themselves, so Republic players do not need to worry that these units will attack them if they are on foot. The Homing Spider Droids deal significant damage to AT-TEs with their beam cannons, so Republic players should try to destroy these stationary vehicles as quickly as possible.
They can be destroyed by AT-TEs as well as Republic troops. They stay in place and automatically target and damage AT-TEs that are near them, but they do not attack anything else.
